Stari
Grad is situated at the bottom of 4 nautical miles long bay on
nothern side of the island Hvara where deep sea bay transforms
to a furtile island field-valley that had in antient times wineyards
and olive fields. that settlement was founded in IV. century B.C.,
as a Greek colony Pharos. It is full of archeological discoveries
and cultural-historical monuments. History has been for centuries
leaving here many monumental signs on the urban body of Stari
Grad. City walls Faros of Greek colonists, Roman mosaics, church
of St. John, mediaeval street branches and Tvrdalj the renaissance
fortified castle with fish pond, gardens of poet Hektor Hektorovic,
are millenium simbols of this city.

haven't been living from maritime trading, agriculture were the
primar activity. Field with 1000 ha are the largest cultivable surface
on the Croatian archipelago. Fields enabled life and the bay protection.
