City of Hvar
City
of Hvar is the biggest place on the island. Situated in natural
surrounding of southwest shore of the island Hvar. The name comes
from the word Pharos, Greek name for the island and the city that
used to be on place of today Old Town. City of Hvar with places
Brusje, Velo Grablje, Milna and Sveta Nedjelja counts ca 4500
inhabitants. Climate is mild Mediterranean, with no big oscillations. |
Hvar
is a city of extremely cultural-historical heritage, but strong
tourist centre with century's tourist tradition. Pleasant climate,
lots of sun, natural beauties, various hotel, sport and recreational
offer attracts tourist to the city at summer and winter, and for
its climate characteristics medical-treatment tourism has developed.
In 1868. Hvar founded Hygienic society, which cared for the pleasant
stay of tourists in the city. In that way has in fact started
to develop modern tourism, in 1903. year first hotel "Carica
Elizabeta" was founded. Today Hvar has many various accommodations. |

Hvar
possess exceptional monumental heritage: cathedral, Franciscan
monastery, theatre (first communal theatre in Europe), fortress
with beautiful view on Pakleni islands and Vis, quality and various
accommodation: hotels, apartments, board and lodging, camp, and
many possibilities for sport recreation: tennis, table tennis,
basketball, bowling and renting equipment for water sports. It
is especially known for its climate with lot of sun, little rainy
days and almost without snow, because of that hotel tourist workers
offer guests to pay 50% of the price if that day was raining the
entire day or nothing if it is snowing. Swimmers like to visit
Pakleni islands, a complex of little islands, where you can enjoy
in sun and sea in many isolated woody coves. In restaurants of
the city Hvar serves fish specialities, beside extremely well
goes quality and top-level Hvar's wine. |
Today
Hvar is one of most visited and popular touristic destination of
Dalmatia. With all great places on the island (Stari Grad, Jelsa,
Vrboska and etc.) it is connected with bus lines and ferry lines
with Split, Rijeka, Zadar, Dubrovnik and islands of the archipelago. |
